A Right Turn (or Maybe it's a Left) into Crazytown While Driving my Soapbox

Dear Extremists,

Please excuse my ranting, but I don't like your attitude.  No matter which way you lean your agendas are destroying our country.  No entitlements v. socialism.  Increased debt ceiling v. bankruptcy.  'Green' energy v. drill baby drill.  You pit your ideals against one another in an attempt to one up and in the meantime you forget that nothing in politics- in life- is black and white.

Why do you not realize that we are ALL in this together?  I don't care if you are pro-Obama or pro-Palin.  You need to understand that no one that is seeking a political office is setting out to destroy our country. Palin is not a she-devil and Obama is not a terrorist. No one goes into government to do bad.  Their ideas and concepts of right/wrong and what will strengthen our country come from experience, religion and education.  No one should be faulted for their ideas and beliefs!  We should, however, all be given the same opportunities to expand our world view and get a first hand experience at what makes the other side tick.  I would call myself fairly liberal person but lately I have been fed up with 'my' side as much as the other.  No one side is right or wrong.  We are all just trying to survive with the hand we were given.

Common citizens now seem to be taking the brunt of our country's inability to compromise.  Since when do we attack civic employees for doing their jobs?  Teachers are facing layoffs, pay cuts and a loss of retirement benefits.  State employees that follow federal policies are being personally attacked and publicly humiliated for following protocol.  Those out to prove a point are trampling all over the working class without realizing that the working class doesn't have a say in most policy decisions. Why are we so quick to shoot the messenger when the real problem lies in upper-level political extremism?

Why aren't we putting more pressure on the government policy makers to get over their political agendas and start making moderate decisions? No one has to necessarily be happy- the policies just have to work and strengthen our society.  I know that this is easier said than done, but I am incredibly tired of extremism.  Politicians need to realize that their constituents are struggling to stay afloat while they are promoting agendas.  I want to help the homeless man that lives downtown, but I do feel as though he should work for his dinner like everyone else.

There is no definitive solution to poverty, health care, debt ceilings, energy sources, etc. but there are moderate ideas and people willing to compromise a little bit of themselves in order to see some semblance of stability in our country.  We need to do away with the hatred and focus our energies on promoting compromise and logic.  We need to remember that our country was built around the idea that there should be a separation between the church and state- but this doesn't mean a separation between morality and the state.  We are all human, we are all Americans, and we are ALL just trying to work to feed our families.

Please start being nice,
A supporter of the magnificent Diane and all of those who are victims of extremist agendas.
